This homemade pepperoni pizza roll recipe makes the perfect pizza snack. Imagine a pepperoni pizza and a cinnamon roll had a baby... this is your result. 🍕
1 1/3cupsWarm Water100-110°F
1package Active Dry Yeast
2cupsShredded Mozzarella Cheese
Make the Pizza Dough
Dissolve the yeast in 1/3 cup warm water (~ 110°F) plus 1 tsp sugar. Let stand for 10 minutes. There should be bubbles in the bowl if the yeast is still alive and active. Adding the sugar is not a necessary step to “activatee” the yeast, however I find it useful to “prove” that the yeast has not yet expired.
Next, add 2 cups of flour, 2 tablespoons of oil, 1 cup of warm water, and 2 teaspoons of salt. Mix. Add more flour as needed, mixing well until the dough holds together in a ball.
Lightly flour a board or clean surface and knead the dough by hand for about 10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. You could also use a dough hook in a stand mixer to do the kneading for you. If using a KitchenAid Mixer, it is best to mix with a dough hook on Speed 2 for 2 minutes.
Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap and allow to rise until the dough has doubled in size, about 1 ½ to 2 hours. The best temperature for allowing dough to rise is 70-90°F.
Punch down the dough and divide in half. Let rest for 5 minutes. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Prepare the Pizza Rolls
Roll each ball of dough out into an oblong/rectangular shape. Spoon 1 cup of pizza sauce onto each pizza. Sprinkle each pizza with about 1 cup of mozzarella cheese. Top each with pepperoni and sprinkle evenly with dried oregano.
Roll up each pizza as you would a jelly roll but starting with the long edge. Cut each roll into 12 pieces about 1 inch wide using a sharp knife.
Places the rolls on a parchment lined baking sheet.
In a small bowl combine the melted butter and garlic powder. Brush over rolls. Bake in 400 degree oven for about 15 minutes.
